We got the first boat out to Ambergris island at 8am. After an hour-ish we docked at San Pedro and headed to nearby Ruby's Hotel, which was recommended to us as being cheap and clean (two words we like). For $20usd a night for a double room, with fan, free wi-fi and located on the beach, it worked for us, especially as Belize hadn't shown to be a cheap country so far.
We ate at a beach front restaurant and had a much needed cat nap in the afternoon (the storm rained on our tropical parade). That evening we headed to Palapa Bar and Grill, which was a bit of a walk along the front (bring head-torch), but it's a relaxed bar on stilts in the sea and there's free tubing where the bar tenders hand you drinks to sup in the sea. It's a bit pricey, but you'll be stuffed. Pulled pork is a winner ;-).
